How to Keep Your Blog and Readers Feeling Festive During the Holiday Season
With the holidays rapidly approaching, you might be looking for ways to keep your readers feeling the holiday spirit even as they browse your website. Incorporating the holidays into your layout or content is a great way to enhance the theme of your existing display and give your visitors a bit of cheer while they browse and see what’s new. After all, this is done every year by Starbucks, and let’s be honest, can we really embrace the holiday season without a peppermint mocha neatly wrapped in an infamous red Starbucks cup?
Yes — but that’s not a world I want to live in.
Decorative Plug-Ins and Themes
Decorations – not just for the office anymore! There are a variety of different holiday themed plug-ins and themes that can give your website and blog holiday cheer. This can include anything from falling snowflakes to a countdown to your favorite holiday (of which there are many); for example, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, National French Toast Day (November 28, for those of you who will be celebrating with me), Christmas/ our own Jackson Hathorn’s Birthday, Kwanza, New Year’s Eve/Day, and the Super Bowl are just a few of the winter milestones you can countdown the seconds to.
As for our office, we currently have our own countdown in effect.
‘Tis the season for giving back – regardless of which holiday resonates most with your readers, a fun way to spread holiday cheer is by letting them know how much they mean to you. A great way to do this is by hosting a series of games on your blog or social media forum of choice that allows your readers to participate and win prizes or gifts for guessing correct answers to trivia questions. This is a great way to connect with followers during the holidays and show appreciation for their loyalty.
In the spirit of giving back, another way to inspire good will toward all is to have your office volunteer at a charity event. Create a blog post complete with images and a detailed description of the charity and the purpose of the event. This will not only motivate readers to follow in your lead, but it will give them the opportunity to understand your company and its goals better.
There’s a rumor going around the office that this is a popular sport. A fun game we’ve taken to playing is guessing the scores from each Seahawks game as they happen. We’ve since taken this game to Twitter and are offering our followers who guess the correct outcome of the game a $25 gift card to Starbucks. My score is currently set to 4-0 against the Falcons on the 10th – I think my odds are looking pretty good. GO HAWKS!
As always, the holidays can be a very busy time for everyone involved, so in the middle of planning dinners, parties, and French toast cook-offs, remember to schedule blog posts ahead of time so your readers are never left out in the cold.
